Every eclipse until 2030

Annular solar eclipse of 6 February 2027

The Moon is too far from Earth to cover the whole Sun: along a narrow path a ring of Sun stays round it, and that ring is still dazzling. Partial everywhere else.

Where it is visible

South America, Antarctica, western and southern Africa. Annular in Chile, Argentina and over the Atlantic. Greatest eclipse at 16:00 UT.

What you will actually see, and with what

Never look at the Sun without protection, not even at 90%: the part left uncovered still burns the retina, without pain.

  • With the naked eye: eclipse glasses or a viewer meeting ISO 12312-2, from a named maker, for every person.
  • Binoculars or a telescope: only with a solar filter made for it, fixed firmly over the FRONT of the instrument. Never eclipse glasses behind an eyepiece.
Annular solar eclipse

An annular eclipse is never total: the ring of Sun that remains is dazzling. Glasses on from start to finish, even at the ring.
